Destination Wedding in Greece

Mediterranean Magic in Crete: A Destination Wedding in a 1,800 Year Old Greek Orthodox Church

Tim was an old college buddy of mine, so when he reached out from Germany to ask if my wife and I would photograph and film his wedding, it already felt personal. He had met Kristina there and together they chose to get married in an 1,800 year old Greek Orthodox church in Chania, on the island of Crete. The history in those walls, the icons, the candlelight, and the quiet reverence of the ceremony created a sense of depth and meaning that fit them perfectly.

For the celebration, they rented a sprawling estate on the Mediterranean Sea and invited friends from all over the world to spend the week with them. By the time the wedding day arrived, everyone felt like extended family. The sun slowly dipped into the water, the sky turned soft shades of gold and pink, and a cool summer breeze set the tone for an ethereal evening filled with Mediterranean flavors, clinking glasses, and heartfelt toasts in different accents and languages. It was the kind of destination wedding that felt less like an event and more like a once in a lifetime gathering of their favorite people on the planet.

Favorite Details

Some of my favorite details were the little intersections of past and present. Watching a friend from college stand in an ancient Greek church to marry the woman he loves, hearing laughter echo through stone hallways that have seen centuries of stories, and then stepping outside to film them under a sunset that felt almost unreal. The combination of the historic church, the sea view estate, and their international community of guests made Tim and Kristina’s wedding feel like a Mediterranean storybook brought to life.
