Desert Dreams in the City: An Editorial Love Story at Balboa Park’s Cactus Garden

Windmill Glam and Coastal Golden Hour: A Carlsbad Wedding Straight Out of an Editorial Spread

Kim first found my work and immediately knew that my wife and I were the photo and video team for her. From our first conversation, it was clear she had a strong creative vision and a deep love for all things desert chic and editorial.

For their engagement session, Kim originally thought about Joshua Tree, but we pivoted to the Cactus Garden at Balboa Park. It turned out to be the perfect choice. We captured all of her desert inspired portraits among the cacti, then wandered into the heart of Balboa Park to use San Diego’s iconic architecture for an editorial style romance shoot. Kim even upgraded her collection to include an engagement video so she could relive not just how it looked, but exactly how it felt.

Their wedding at the Carlsbad Windmill by Wedgewood Weddings was the ideal blend of upscale editorial elegance and timeless wedding traditions. From an officiant who stood in the middle of the aisle, creating a unique ceremony layout, to sneaking away during the reception to chase the sunset at Carlsbad Beach, every part of the day felt intentional and stylish while still being full of heart.

Favorite Details

Some of my favorite details were how connected Kim’s vision felt from engagement to wedding. The desert mood of the Cactus Garden, the romantic architecture of Balboa Park, the polished look of the Carlsbad Windmill, and the golden light at Carlsbad Beach all worked together. It told a complete story of a couple who loves style, adventure, and honoring tradition in a way that still feels very much their own.
